ЭКЛС Lads Club

I already drew attention to this on the dreaded Twitter but I thought it worth posting up here too. The image above is part of a map drawn up in 1974 by the Russian army, showing potential invasion routes into Manchester, via The Guardian.

The exhibition at John Rylands Library on Deansgate is well worth a look. Some great images of failed public transport projects in Manchester, Picc-Vicc tunnel in particular

This is great... Reminds me of a film called Red Dawn, now a Cold War relic – a cross between a bratpack high school film and Red Invasion paranoia in which some attractive teenagers become guerilla partisans in Rocky Mountains after Soviets overrun the Midwest. Or rather, it makes me imagine a Mancunian version; Red Dawn if it was made by Ken Loach or whoever directed The Machine Gunners for TV. There's a strand of Soviet iconography among Man U fans - you see secessionist banners referring to the Republik of Mancunia etc.
